Road conditions are another common misconception. Almost the entire Alaska Highway is asphalt-surfaced, and approximately half of the state’s highway system is paved.

Alaska’s mountains are breathtaking and awe inspiring. 17 out of the 20 highest peaks in the United States are in Alaska. Mt. McKinley, located in Alaska is the highest peak in North America. This mountain soars to 20,320 ft. above sea level. The Indian name for the peak is Denali, which means "The Great One." With mountains this large, Alaska’s backcountry boarding and skiing is definitely world class.

There are more active glaciers and ice fields in Alaska than in the rest of the inhabited world. The largest glacier in the state, is the Malaspina, which is 850 square miles. Going for a glacier tour is one of the things you must take part in while visiting Alaska.

The third longest river in the U.S. is the Yukon River, stretching almost 2,000 miles. There are more than 3,000 rivers in Alaska and over 3 million lakes. The largest, Lake Iliamna, is over 1,000 square miles. Come here for a fishing charter and catch a gigantic king salmon, like you’ve never seen before. This state has excellent fishing and hunting. There are many experienced guides, outfitters and charters that can be booked. Finding the right guide or charter can make your experience all the more a rewarding one.
