Short Description: Wilderness Adventures

Long Description: Canadian Expeditions has been leading sea kayaking, canoeing, rafting, hike/tour, and backpacking wilderness expeditions in Arctic Canada, the Yukon, and British Columbia for 14 years. Small Groups of 10 or less.

SEA KAYAKING
Sea kayaks allow the paddler to slip silently across the waters, explore shallow inlets and coves, and approach marine mammals and birdlife without disturbing their calm. Previous experience is not necessary, although is desirable for Chilko Lake. Our expert guides will provide instruction in technique and with safety. We use double sea kayaks for our expeditions for safety and logistical reasons, as well as this is the standard expected by the Sea Kayaking Association of British Columbia for expedition companies. You can expect to paddle for approximately 4 hours per day but group ability, weather, campsites, and currents may modify this goal.

CANOEING
For our canoeing trips previous experience is not necessary. We have selected waters that have been categorized as Class 1 and suitable for beginners. Our expert guides will provide instruction in technique and with safety. Although suitable for novices, paddlers with previous experience will find our expeditions to satisfy their sense of adventure. We use Clipper and Old Towne canoes for our expeditions.

RAFTING
Similar to large canoes, but slower on the river and suitable for those who may not be able to paddle much. Five participants are carried in each. The rafting experience is a true "float trip" - days are longer, but less effort is required. There is one guide per raft, typically 3 rafts per expedition and the guides do the rowing. We always have paddles available for anyone who wants to paddle.
BACKPACKING
The following trail ratings are intended as a rough guide as many trails will display degrees of all categories and bad weather can affect ratings:

Easy: well-maintained trails and/or mostly flat terrain
Moderate: mostly good trails, with significant elevation changes of a gradual nature or short but strenuous.
Strenuous: will contain some or all of following conditions: off trail hiking, creek/river crossings, rough terrain, significant elevation changes, longer hiking days.

On most days we will begin hiking around 9 am, have a short rest each hour, stop for lunch, and get into camp around 4 p.m. Depending on the length of the trip, you can expect to carry 13 kg/30 lbs. or more. You will carry a portion of the food. Although our guides carry the lion¿s share of group equipment, you may be asked to carry something.

All Expeditions: transportation from the point of origin and return, national or provincial park user fees unless otherwise stated, camping fees, cooking gear, camp stoves, meals/snacks/beverages on the expedition, tents, meal preparations, tarps, major first aid supplies, emergency radio or satellite phone, and professional guides.

Canoe Expeditions: canoes, paddles, PFD [life jacket], canoe carts [where applicable], large dry bags.

Sea Kayak Expeditions: sea kayaks, paddles, PFDs [life jacket], spray skirts, survival suits for arctic waters.

Upon registration we will send you information about conditioning, packing, equipment and clothing, along with maps and itinerary.
