Contrary to popular belief, prices in Alaska are not that unreasonable and comparable to the rest of the United States. The weather is more pleasant than you would also expect. During the summer, the average daytime temperature ranges from the 60s to the 90s throughout the entire state.

Road conditions are another common misconception. Almost the entire Alaska Highway is asphalt-surfaced, and approximately half of the state’s highway system is paved.

Alaska’s mountains are breathtaking and awe inspiring. 17 out of the 20 highest peaks in the United States are in Alaska. Mt. McKinley, located in Alaska is the highest peak in North America. This mountain soars to 20,320 ft. above sea level. The Indian name for the peak is Denali, which means "The Great One." With mountains this large, Alaska’s backcountry boarding and skiing is definitely world class.

There are an estimated 100,000 glaciers, ranging from little cirque glaciers to enormous valley glaciers in Alaska. There are more active glaciers and ice fields in Alaska than in the rest of the inhabited world. The largest glacier in the state, is the Malaspina, which is 850 square miles. Going for a glacier tour is one of the things you must take part in while visiting Alaska.

The third longest river in the U.S. is the Yukon River, stretching almost 2,000 miles. There are more than 3,000 rivers in Alaska and over 3 million lakes. The largest, Lake Iliamna, is over 1,000 square miles. Come here for a fishing charter and catch a gigantic king salmon, like you’ve never seen before. This state has excellent fishing and hunting. There are many experienced guides, outfitters and charters that can be booked. Finding the right guide or charter can make your experience all the more a rewarding one.

With water, naturally, comes scuba diving, and Alaska has lots of it. There are many scuba diving charters to choose from, so if you are looking for an adventure Alaska may just be that something different you were looking for. The water here is crystal clear and teaming with marine life as well as it share of wrecks.

The state sport of Alaska is dog mushing. Home of the world famous Iditarod, dog mushing was once a primary form of transportation in many areas of Alaska. Now you can experience what it was like to travel by dogsled. There are many professional dog sledding tours you can take for a day or even a couple days trek.
