Short Description: 7 Magical Eco-Wonders of Vancouver Island

Long Description: Nowhere else on earth can you experience this amazing array of adventures and scenic beauty. Bring lots of film because this tour is like being in the middle of a National Geographic Imax movie. We will visit places that are truly unique, magical and inspirational. Your guide is a trained naturalist and local guides are also used throughout the journey. Imagine¿

Hot Springs Cove - hot thermal waterfall and pools above the crashing surf. Awesome boardwalk trail through the rainforest. Sleep on board the M.V. Innchanter, a 1920's heritage ship that features the cooking and conversation of Innkeeper Sean Shelongonsky.

Cougar Annie's Garden - within the Clayoquot Sound United Nations Biosphere Reserve, this surreal garden features amazing gardens and sculpture in a very remote setting. Cougar Annie was the tough and wily pioneer who settled in 1915 in a remote area of Clayqout Sound, 60 km. northwest of Tofino. She bore eleven children, outlived four husbands and established a five-acre garden of rare beauty in the wilderness. The outbuildings and sculpture throughout the garden and artistic gems.

Broken Islands Archipelago - within the Pacific Rim National Park lies a spectacular group of islands that feature sea lion rookeries, various species of whales, ancient native villages and white sandy beaches. We travel on board the M.V. Lady Rose, a working vessel and also by sea kayak or canoe.

Alert Bay - U'Mista Cultural Center, Historical maritime boardwalk, Namgis Big House, Gator Gardens and a First Nation Salmon BBQ Feast.

Gulf Islands - we explore scenic islands such as Saltspring and Quadra and visit recently preserved nature parks and the coves and inlets that surround these islands.

Sombrio Suspension Bridge - hike the rainforests of the Juan De Fuca Marine Trail to a 200-foot high suspension bridge. Walk the sandy beaches of Bear Beach and explore the inter-tidal pools at Botanical Beach Park.

Sooke Potholes and Galloping Goose Trail - Plunge into the Potholes of the upper Sooke River and then ride along the Galloping Goose Trail through forests and valleys beside inlets and lakes.

Each night features world-class accommodation in wondrous waterfront lodges. Each meal is a tasty memory featuring the local bounty from the sea and land. The journey includes dozens of spectacular sites and stops along the way. Too many to mention such as Native village sites, unique artisan studios, bird sanctuaries, ancient old-growth groves of cedar and Douglas Fir, tidal pools, hot springs, rainforests boardwalks ¿and much more.

This guided excursion is an educational and cultural experience led by Jeff Hunter-Smith, Chief Guide for Island Adventure Tours. Jeff's background is in environmental science and aboriginal culture. Jeff has been a Provincial Park facility operator, a land claims negotiator, and an eco-tourism guide. He has taken over 1,000 people to the temperate rainforests on southern Vancouver Island. Jeff also utilizes local guides on this tour for bear-watching, native culture, and marine wildlife day trips.

Testimonials: "what an amazing trip! The whales breaching and the hot springs were two highlights I will never forget. Thanks Jeff, I'll be back." Russel Woodgates
"Vancouver Island is definately a magical place. This trip exceeded my expectations and left me refreshed and exhausted at the same time!" Sue Coleman
