Short Description: High Country fly fishing adventures
Long Description: Victoria's magnificent High Plains are home to some of the most beautiful streams you will ever see, situated in some of the most breathtaking scenery around, all in 'Man from Snowy River' country. Abundant wildlife, non-abundant people, clean air and water, the High Plains is the best place to chase the wily trout with fly, especially on horseback. This area is tailor-made for trail riding, and there's just no better experience than riding through pristine mountain forests down into rarely visited river valleys where the trout rise to the chorus of the Kookaburra and Currawong. Enjoy streamside lunches of freshly caught & cooked trout, fresh bush damper, and billy tea/coffee. Afterwards, relax in the first-class comfort of the High Plains Lodge, with its excellent cuisine, world-class local wines, and relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The Lodge's bar is a 'melting-pot' for all the visiting fishermen, where fishing stories are swapped regularly. This is an experience that you will talk about to your friends and family for years afterwards -
imagine telling how you rode down into this beautiful deep valley, leaving all the noise and stress behind, to find a classic freestone mountain stream with gin-clear water - real drinking water! Trout sitting in the current, rising and diving to collect insects, your fly drifting along the current, being engulfed by a trout that may never have seen a human being! The lunch - smoked trout, hams, bread rolls, chilled white wine, salad, cheeses - and of course the proverbial Mars Bar! Sitting by the water, watching the newly hatched mayflies drift by .... time for another cast! Afternoon into evening, the trout rise with renewed vigour now, taking your fly with abandon. The ride out of the valley, catching all the lights of the setting sun .... and probably wondering to yourself why you didn't book for a week of this kind of bliss, instead of just three days.
Our guide is one of the best in the country, and has 38 years fly fishing experience, and nearly 13 years guiding experience. Our horses are mountain-bred, quiet and sure-footed. Both the guide and horse-master are fully bonded and insured, first-aid trained and equipped.

Testimonials: "Best experience we've ever had! We're already booked for next year." Barry & Sue Golding, Sherwood Qld.
"When the fishing was difficult, Rod's skill and patience made all the difference - we were the only people at the Lodge bar that night who caught fish! The perfect end to our mountain holiday." Ross & Kathy Wines, Templestowe, Vic.
"I just didn't want to leave that amazingly beautiful place - thanks for a fantastic three days of fly fishing, I learned heaps!" Holger Schaarschmidt, Mt. Dandenong, Vic.
"On behalf of the Macquarie Trust Bank fishing group (Dec.2-4), I would like to thank you for a most enjoyable and educational weekend. Your 'Weekend Fly Fishing Primer' is without doubt the best possible way to learn the skills of fly fishing, and the accommodation and hospitality was just perfect for us. I think you have probably secured a 100% vote among the 24 participants for a return trip sometime before the summer is over. Again many thanks for a great weekend - we'll more than happy to pass on your details to some of our clients." Sue Donnelly, Social Liaison, Macquarie Trust Bank, Sydney NSW. |
